Diesel fuel flow meter is the most widely used equipment in mechanical and chemical plants. The work of flow meters is simple- it measures the amount of gas, liquid and other material that passes through the sensors. Though all serve the same function and purpose, there are different diesel flow meters to choose from.

To choose and set up one, you need some specific data and tools, including one-inch pipe diameter, analog communication and diesel. The maximum process temperature and pressure must be maintained to 40°C and 6kg per sq. cm, respectively. Before setting up one, let’s understand its working principle.

What is the working principle?

Fluid flows through the sensor because the impeller’s blade has a certain angle with the flow direction. The impulse of the fluid forces the blade to rotate after overcoming fluid resistance and frictional torque. Once the torque is balanced, the speed of the blade becomes stable.

There are certain conditions where the speed is directly proportional to the flow rate. As the blade is magnetically permeable, the rotating blades cut the magnetic field lines and change the coil’s magnetic flux periodically. An electric pulse is induced at the coil’s ends. The signal amplifies and forms a rectangular pulse wave with certain amplitude.

Where is it applied?

Diesel flow meters have become increasingly popular for generators, boats, trains and hydraulic applications. Though fuel consumption is generally not monitored, the unit’s performance can be determined from the test figures.
