Cover Your Flat Roof With Long Lasting PVC Roofing

One of the major concerns when running a business is the building it is located in. Many commercial buildings are designed with a low sloped roof, sometimes called a flat roof. Originally, these roofs were made from a bitumen based products, known as hot tar roofing. These are typically sensitive roofs that need repair or replacement every five years or so. This is because the bitumen will dry out and crack which allows water to enter the premises. An alternative to these flat roofing systems is thermoplastic roofing. Thermoplastic roofing comes in at least two different types, TPO (Thermoplastic Olefin) or PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) membranes. There are also PVC alloys designed for specific protection factors.

There are a number of benefits to using thermoplastic membranes, not the least of which are longer warranties and more durable roofing solutions. Another important advantage is energy efficiency. Thermoplastic materials such as PVC Roofing are known as cool roofing solutions because they reflect solar energy away from the building. Plus, these polymers don’t soak up heat the way other roofing methods do. This also improves the life of the products because excess heat and solar rays can destroy many roofing materials.

Thermoplastic roofing is installed in two different ways. One uses mechanically fastened membranes which are laid out in a fashion similar to shingles and the other is a fully adhered membrane. Either method may be applied to a low sloped roof, but fully adhered membranes need to be installed in specific temperatures in order for the adhesive to cure properly.

Because the roof materials are polymers, all seams are sealed through plastic welding. This means that heat is applied to the seams during installation. The contractor uses two techniques for sealing. The first is a robot that closes long seams and the second uses hand tools that seal around roofing details such as flashing and vents. Ensuring your roof is fully functional can be a tough job. The best way to handle this problem is to have the building covered with a roofing material that will last for decades. For most businesses this is thermoplastic membranes. If you are considering TPO or PVC Roofing for your building be sure to contact an expert like Roofing Solutions LLC.
