What Are Marijuana Strains?

Marijuana strains are either hybrid or pure Cannabis varieties, usually of C. ruderalis, C. indica, and C. sativa. Varieties are created to intensify certain plant characteristics, or differentiate the strain for the reason of marketing it more efficiently as a drug. Typically, variety names are selected by their growers, and oftentimes reflect plant properties like color, taste, smell, or variety origin. Cannabis strains typically refer to the varieties that have medicinal and recreational use.

Kinds Of Varieties

Clone-only – Grower might genetically distribute identical plant clones. The clone is the only method of propagating a plant while keeping its exact genetic make-up. Nonetheless, the conditions underneath which the plant is cultivated still will vastly affect the end product.

Stable seed – Developing a genetically stable variety includes selectively picking female and male cannabis plants and then breeding them over multiple generations. The end generation’s seeds will reliably grow into plants exhibiting the desired characteristics, although some genetic variation still will happen.

Unstable seed – Unstable marijuana strains varieties are generated without a number of generations of breeding. Though they may be quickly produced, plants grown from those seeds might have varying characteristics. Generally, commercial seed retailers don’t distribute unstable seed varieties, although a few disreputable shops may. Third-party and amateur growers might, whether knowingly or not, generate unstable derivatives from known varieties and misleadingly refer to them by their real variety name.

Landraces or wild varieties – Some varieties, like Thai and Colombian, refer to marijuana plants discovered growing wild within certain areas. Usually, those plants are utilized as bases for the generation of more specialized varieties, like Hash or G-13.
